Sept. 12-17, 2005
Following Hurricane Katrina, I joined a group of volunteers from several North Alabama Presbyterian Churches.
We traveled to Gulfport, Mississippi and bunked at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in the Bayou View neighborhood.
These are photos I grabbed while we provided relief work.
On our last day there we decided to try and get a look "across the tracks". An area located between the trian tracks and
the bay where the storm surge had left almost nothing but debris. In some cases it had simply pulled everything out into the gulf.
We did manage to talk our way into the business district but couldn't get into the neighborhoods.
